The Humpy is a highly visible, well floating searching pattern, ideal for fast water. It is very effective and nearly unsinkable.
According to research, it is best when fished in the late afternoon, when the light gets redder. This applies to all red flies, but does not mean that the fly is not effective during the rest of the day. It is just better later.
The origin of the Humpy fly is disputed. It could be a combination of Jack Horner’s Deer Hair pattern and Canada’s Tom Thumb, and originated in the late 1930’s.

Griffiths Gnat Dry Fly
The perfect fly for smutting fish (Small sippy takes just under the surface). This dry fly imitates most small flies, but mostly midges, and floats well despite its size. To see it better, get your eye-level closer to the water.
It is fished both in streams and dams. Present it delicately on the stream surface and let it to drift naturally with the current. Use floatant if needed. For still water, let it sit and drift with wind, also twitching to create the illusion of a struggling insect.
